Welcome to my blog - and thank you for sharing with me as I embark on an exciting journey!
I have offered to write a blog to share my experiences of the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT) Council meeting (26th - 30th April 2010), Focus Day (25th April 2010) and Congress (3rd - 7th May 2010) which are due to be held in Santiago, Chile. The WFOT Congress website is: www.wfot.org/wfot2010 and there is still time to register - so why not come too? If you are attending please comment on my blog and let me know - I want to meet as many new colleagues as possible - there is so much we can learn from each other to maximise the value of occupational therapy for the people we serve.
I will be attending these events as the elected British Association of Occupational Therapists (BAOT) and Council of Occupational Therapists (COT) elected Council member for International Affairs and the UK delegate to the WFOT Council.
I am also fortunate to have had two abstracts accepted for presentation at the Congress so I am giving a paper and a poster during the conference.
I am also the Deputy Director of the Research Centre for Occupation and Mental Health (RCOMH) which is hosted by York St John University (YSJU) . I am delighted that on Wednesday 5th May 2010 I will be hosting an event at the WFOT Congress to celebrate the international launch of RCOMH. This time next week I shall be sitting on a flight from Paris to Santiago - hopefully asleep as it's a nightime flight. In fact I really should be asleep now too!!

Dear Enrique, Thank you for your encouragement. It is the first time I have written a blog. I really want to increase people's understanding of the work of the World Federation of Occupational Therapists. I have been fortunate to attend 3 WFOT Congresses in the past - and also want to share this amazing experience with colleagues around the globe.

How is communication working in a truly international conference setting?
How are other countries dealing with the challenges of budget, professional identity, social media?
